Chief Election Officer

The Village Clerk plays a crucial role as the Chief Election Officer for the Village, in compliance with Illinois State Statute. Their duties include handling voter registration and re-registration, processing lost voter registration cards, and receiving certain nominating petitions. Additionally, they assist the Cook County Clerk with Early Voting and identifying Polling locations, and mail absentee ballot applications to "out-of" or disabled voters. The Village Clerk is a member of the North Northwest Municipal Clerks' Association and attends all necessary training offered by the Cook County Clerk's Office.

Citizen Assistance Programs

The Village Clerk's office offers a range of Citizen Assistance programs to help residents navigate various services and resources. These programs include a 24-hour phone line service for questions about school districts, legislators, and referrals to legal, economic development, health, and social services. Additionally, the office provides various services such as processing RTA/CTA/Metra reduced fare permit applications for seniors, maintaining bus schedules, offering notary services, accepting passport applications, and accepting payments for the Skokie Real Estate Transfer Tax.

Official Keeper of the Records 

The Village Clerk plays a crucial role in the administration of the village. Per State Statute, the Clerk is the Official Keeper of the Records. The Village Clerk attends all Board of Trustees meetings and is responsible for maintaining the Minutes of such meetings. The Clerk is also responsible for logging, filing, indexing, certifying, and attesting to all Resolutions, Proclamations, Ordinances, and Agreements. Additionally, the Clerk is the custodian of the Village seal and ensures its proper use.

The Village Clerk plays an important role as the Village's ombudsman. The Clerk works to resolve problems of individual residents and to bring about changes to improve Village services. If a resident faces any issues, they can approach the Clerk for assistance. The Clerk can guide the resident to the appropriate department for prompt attention and resolution of the problem.

The Village Clerk plays a crucial role in maintaining effective communication between the general public, employees, Village Board members, and other public officials. This includes both oral and written communication.

 

Additionally, the Village Clerk is responsible for overseeing the duties of the Deputy Village Clerk.
